* Winter Wedding Style *

Wedding Cake Flavor
For your winter wedding, pick a cake that tastes like winter. What does winter taste like, exactly? Think rich flavors -- and don't be afraid to stray from the traditional white cake. Consider a caramel spice cake filled with caramel and a buttercream frosting, or an orange chocolate cake with dark chocolate filling and decorated with flecks of orange. For a lighter cake with a taste that still reflects the season, go for a white cake with cranberry buttercream frosting and filling.Wedding Cake Flowers
Match your wedding cake to your bridal bouquet by asking your baker to create sugar versions of your flowers. For a modern wedding, ask your baker to make a few large graphic sugar calla lilies for your cake tiers. If you're going for a more classic look, find out whether your baker can "paint" small stephanotis flowers along your cake using an edible style.

But it’s her calm demeanor and ability to diffuse stressful situations that has earned her great success. “I’m a decorator, I’m a good friend. To some, I’m a mother because some don’t have one, or a sister. A therapist—mostly. An organizer of their life and glamorous babysitter.,” shares Mindy about her role as a wedding planner. “And a comedienne sometimes to keep them a little lighter than when they came in.”

When asked why she was the perfect person for this job Mindy said, "I have a the patience of a saint! I'm very even-keeled--that's kind of my reputation in that I'm always calm. I have three children, I have my party planning business, I have a stationary and invitation business--I actually have an invitation line with the company--and I own a gorumet market...and two dogs. I seem to put the priorities with the kids and then everything else after that is easy.

* HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT VEIL FOR YOUR FACE SHAPE*

A veil bride wants to keep her wedding veil on throughout the reception. Veil brides see the hairstyle as secondary; it's necessary only as support to help pouf up their veil. No matter which category you fall into, you'll want to choose a veil and wedding hairstyle that best highlights your face.
When searching for hair and veil styles, a good rule to keep in mind is "opposites attract."

If you're lucky enough to have a DIAMOND- or OVAL-SHAPED face, congratulations -- you're perfectly symmetrical, so your choices areunlimited, as long as they complement your gown, neckline, andproportions.

A ROUND, full face will benefit from a veil that falls along the sidesof the face, thus working to help narrow it. As for your wedding hair:Wearing your hair down or in a face-framing bob is the best option.

A SQUARE jawline needs softness. Face-framing tendrils will help torelax a strong jaw, and a longer veil will work better than a shortwide one. Many people consider a strong jawline a striking feature, andthe confidant bride will want to show it off.

If you have an OBLONG face, complement it with a bit of width. Look forwaterfall veils paired with a wide tiara, wreath, or bun wrap. Stayaway from piled-high hair, which will only make you look moreelongated.

If your face is HEART-SHAPED or TRIANGULAR, you'll want to add width atthe jawline. Since most veils will be too full for you, the best choiceis a back piece, where the width shows up behind the neckline. As forhair, a chignon or flipped-up bob is a great look.

A RECTANGULAR face will benefit from softness too. Don't be afraid to try more voluminous veils, the poofy quality will make your face look more symmetrical. Paired with a sideswept updo, you can't go wrong.

Cute & Colorful Bridesmaids Dresses!

Your attendants are hardly cut from the same cloth, so why should their dresses be? Outfit each girl in a different color and style, and combine lustrous fabrics ad interesting textures. Pair the frocks with pearly nail polish and your wedding party will light up the room.

Bridesmaid dresses don't need to look like, well, bridesmaids dresses. Pick out frocks in your palette that have potential for an afterlife and feature exquisite details and your attendants will rejoice.

For the pearly nail finish make sure it's is not too matte, not too teenybop-glitterly. Nail polish with a frosted finish has just the right amount of wattage for a wedding. Invite bridesmaids to choose a shade that coordinates or contrasts with their gowns. And as for you--take your pick!

*10 Steps to Getting the Perfect Cake*

1. BEFORE HIRING AN OUTSIDE BAKER, see what your caterer has to offer. If a cake is included in the package but you’re not crazy about the colors or design, try working with the in-house baker on some tweaks to make it more to your liking.

2.
FIND THE RIGHT PASTRY PRO: If you want something more unique than your caterer has to offer, hire a specialty cake maker. (But remember: Your caterer may charge a cake—cutting fee of $1 to $8 per slice.) Get referrals from recent brides, then check out the bakers’ websites. Rule out anyone whose design aesthetic veers too far from yours.

3.
MEET WITH YOUR TOP PICKS. View their portfolios and displays, and describe the cake you have in mind. Attend a tasting (some charge a fee for this, but may deduct it if hired).

4.
OFFER PROPS for inspiration – a dress swatch, a photo of your bouquet or site, or anything that can help your baker visualize what you want.
5.
GET A SIGNED AND COUNTERSIGNED CONTRACT that includes the flavors, fillings, frosting, and decoration, including the topper; the number of tiers and servings; the date, time, and location of delivery; and the total cost, including any deposit and a due date for final payment. Ask the baker if she can attach a drawing or photo.
6. WHEN CHOOSING FLAVORS, go seasonal. Order a cake that complements the calendar, such as peach or blueberry in summer, or peppermint or ginger- bread in winter. Marrying in the fall? A pumpkin cake with maple buttercream filling is pure autumn.

7.
SELECT FLAVORS that match your party’s mood. A mango-passion fruit cake at a beach wedding? Perfect. At a Texas barbecue? Not so much. Ask your baker what flavors would make a fitting end to your wedding meal.

8.
PICK TRENDS CAREFULLY. Go with flavor combinations that will be intriguing–but still palatable–to your guests, such as a Key-lime cake with coconut icing.
9.
THINK ABOUT PLATING. Colorful frosting and fillings make a graphic statement on the plate and can complement a decorative element or theme. Fondant tinted pink, for example, would echo the pastel peonies in a bride’s bouquet.

10.
COMBINE YOUR FAVORITES. He’s wild about raspberries; you have a thing for chocolate? It’s a match made in buttercream! Try this: a chocolate cake made of alternating layers filling with raspberry jelly and chocolate mousse.

The Guilty Girl’s Guide to the Guest List!

Feeling torn? We’ll help you decide who should—and shouldn’t—make the cut.

DO YOU HAVE TO INVITE…a casual friend who invited you to her wedding two years ago but whom you haven’t been in touch with since?
WHAT’S A GIRL TO DO? This is your day to celebrate with the people you’re closest to. Even if you were tight with her a few years back, friends drift apart (it happens to everyone), so you’re under no obligation to invite her to the nups. The telltale signal: You think of her as a “casual” friend, not a bestie.

DO YOU HAVE TO INVITE…a plus-one for the single friend from out of town who won’t know a soul?
WHAT’S A GIRL TO DO: Make an exception. Seeing her alone at a table while everyone else does a conga line with pals would make you feel pretty awful.

DO YOU HAVE TO INVITE…guest’s children? You’d planned a no kids policy but are worried some guests may take offense when they see your niece ( the flower girl) and nephew (the ring bearer) running around the reception.
WHAT’S A GIRL TO DO? Stick to your guns. Since the kids are working the event, how could other guests be mad? Also, parents with little often are grateful for a night off from kid duty.

DO YOU HAVE TO INVITE…all 24 of your adult cousins who reside in your hometown, even though your close to only 5 of them?
WHAT’S A GIRL TO DO? A shared zipcode doesn’t buy anyone a spot on the guest list, so just invite the ones you feel most connected to. To avoid hurt feelings, don’t talk up the wedding at family gatherings.

DO YOU HAVE TO INVITE…your dad’s elderly aunt and uncle, who live across the country and can’t easily travel long distances anymore?
WHAT’S A GIRL TO DO? Send them an invitation as a courtesy, with a note that says something like, “We wanted to share this happy family news with both of you, we’ll send photos after the wedding!”

* PURE LOVE *

From "Yes" to "I Do" honor your commitment with a beautiful platinum engagement rings and wedding bands that are as everlasting as the love you share.

A platinum ring won't fade or tarnish and will keep its natural white color for a lifetime. And, because platinum is so pure, it's naturally hypoallergenic and kind to sensitive skin. What a better way to express your love than with platinum engagement rings and wedding bands.

*... IF THE SHOE FITS...*

Bridal footwear has made great strides. Walk the walk in a style with personality to spare. We love these savvy shoe-shopping tips for brides to be!

Don't sacrifice comfort for style: You'll be wearing these shoes for your walk down the aisle until the last dance, so if a pair doesn't feel good on your feet right from the start, forget it.

Size things up. If it's been a while, have your feet measured by a salesperson. Weight gain or loss, as well as age, can affect the size of your feet.

Give yourself some wiggle room. As you try on shoes, remember that your toes and heels shouldn't feel locked. You should be able to move them.

Work the late shift. Shop for shoes in the afternoon. Feet expand throughout the day, and you'll be standing, dancing, and working the reception for hours. You want to be sure your shoes feel good well into the evening.

Take them for a test run. Wear your shoes around the house to break them in. Remember to scuff the soles with sandpaper to created traction and prevent slipping.

* DO IT YOURSELF ESCORT-CARD FRAMES *

Want a customized display for your cards? We created one using flea-market picture frame, acrylic paint, and glam fabric. But you can tailor the project to your wedding style! (All supplies are available at craft stores.)
You’ll Need:
· Wood Frame
· ½ inch wide soft paintbrush
· Acrylic paint
· Yardstick
· Matte knife
· ½ inch thick foam core boards
· Scissors
· batting (filling)
· Fabric (cotton or linen works best; iron before using)
· Straight pins with flat heads
· Masking tape
· Iron
· Hammer
· Small Nails
STEPS
1. Brush two coats of the acrylic paint onto the frame’s front. (Let dry for 20 minutes between coats.) Repeat on back. 2. Measure the frame’s inner border (from the back) with the yardstick, then use the matte knife to cut the foam core 1/8 inch smaller than each measurement. Use scissors to cut four pieces of the batting to the same size as the foam core. Cut one piece of fabric four inches larger than the foam core on each side. Working on a flat surface, stack the fabric, batting, and foam core (in that order, bottom to top). 3. Stretch the fabric tightly over the batting and foam core, using straight pins to secure it into the sides of the foam. (Space the pins two inches apart). Tape the loose fabric flat to the backside of the foam core. Take another piece of fabric, ½ inch larger than the foam core on each side, and create neat edges by ironing ½ inch underneath. Using more pins, secure the fabric to the back of the foam core. 4. Put the fabric-covered board (puffy side facing out) into the frame. Secure it by hammering nails diagonally into the frame’s back, about 5 inches apart.

*THE 411 ON RINGS*

Getting ready to shop for wedding bands? Here's our cheat sheet on the most commonly used materials-and what to know before you buy.
PLATINUM: You can expect to pay a bit more, but this is the wedding ring equivalent of royalty. Pure white and so far more rare than gold, platinum is also naturally hypoallergenic.
SILVER: Sterling is the most budget-friendly. Durability varies based on what alloys are mixed. For example, a platinum-silver blend is less expensive than pure platinum and has whiter, more tarnish-resistant finish than regular sterling.
TITANIUM: The metal in your golf bag is increasingly showing up at the jeweler’s. It’s less shiny than traditional options, but strong and lightweight-perfect for the gal on the go.
WHITE OR YELLOW GOLD: A classic choice: It’s cost-effective and ordered in various levels of purity. The colors are created by blending alloys-like copper for yellow, palladium for white. Watch out for scratches: Gold is a soft metal and shows wear quickly.

WOW YOUR GUESTS WITH THESE UNIQUE WEDDING IDEAS!

*Phonograph Cocktail Hour Music*

Surprise your guests at cocktail hour by renting an antique phonograph to play old time favorites. Quick Tip: Make sure you have someone experienced who can help man the music during cocktail hour. Your DJ or band leader is your best bet.

*Plant a tree to mark you union*

You could stick with the traditional candle or sand ceremony, but why not cap off your wedding ceremony with a celebration that really celebrates growth? If it won't work logistically for the wedding, pot a tree together and then have it transferred to your backyard later.

*Try a custom made table for your wedding cake*

Give your wedding cake extra wow-factor with a tricked out cake table. Wrap it in vines or string lights, construct it out of stacks of books, or ask your florist to swap in tall vases of submerged flowers for a look that will make your guests do a double take.

For more unique ideas go to theknot.com!

DIY Style

Herbal Remedy
Invigorate table arrangements with a flavor infusion. Farmers-market greenery, like oregano, basil, and tarragon, gives a modern setting an organic feel; planted in sleek pots, the herbs double as inventive displays for a wraparound menu of foods that put the plants’ virtues to good use.

Sew Sweet
Encourage loved ones to dig in-literally. For cute place settings that will grow and grow on your guests, fill tiny packets of seeds of your favorite flower, and stitch them onto simply printed seating cards; then watch their happiness blossom.

Sunny Side Up
“A host, of golden daffodils / beside the lake, beneath the trees / fluttering and dancing in the breeze.” We love daffodils as much as William Wordsworth did-they herald spring’s arrival. Try budding bulbs bought form a local nursery and nestle into sake cups beneath beds of rocks. To turn into take-home favors, use a rubber stamp to imprint planting instructions onto wooden posts. If you prefer dormant bulbs, buy them online in the fall.

How I Knew I Wanted to Marry Her; It was Serendipitous

Bride Girls here are some romantic stories about the moment that you've always dreamt about coming to fruition. . .

  • She Could Pull Off a Suprise – "when Sarah and I first got together, I mentioned how I had always wanted a first edition of my favorite book, The Great Gatsby. Two years later, on our anniversary, we were out for a nice dinner, and she surprosed me with a copy of the novel from when it was first published. She had found one, saved up money, and bought it. I was blown away. I honestly hadn't even remembered telling her about my wish. But she had listened, tucked away that infrmation, and yeas later, tracked down a copy for me. A few onths later, tracked down a copy for me. A few months after that, I bought an amazing ring–with help from her sister–and proposed." –Steven, 31
  • She Never Guilt-Tripped Me – "I took a boys' teip with a bunch of friends from college. We went to Miami to hit the beach and go clubbing. Past girlfriends would have been worried about me being with my rowdy guy friends in another city without supervision, but this girl told me to have a great time and didn't get jealous at all. "The first night there, I had a blast. But by the second day, I started missing my girlfriend really badly. Being with my sloppy guy friends made me think about how if my girlfriend really badly. Being with my sloppy guy friends made me think about how if my girlfriend were there, our hotel room would be much neater and cleaner. Later, we went to a Thai fusion restaurant, and all I couldthink about was how much she would have loved it. The fact that she gave me the freedom to go without guilt-tripping me–and then missing her so much–solidified my belief that she was the one I was supposed to be with for the rest of my life." - Eric, 26
  • She Played Nurse – "I had been dating Jill for about a year when my mom had a pretty serious surgery that made it difficult for her to get around. One day, my mom called and asked me to thank Jill for her. Without mentioning it to me, Jill had taken the morning off work to go over to Mom's and help her with stuff around the house. Jil did my mom's laundry, made her breakfast, and cleaned the entire place. She didn't do it because someone had asked her to and didn't even feel the need to let me know she had gone out of her way to help. When I hung up with my mom, I had this overwhelming feeling, and all I could think was 'Iv've gotta marry this girl." – Tim, 29
  • She Let Loose – "Six month into dating my girlfriend, I took her out to a karaoke bar with some of my friends. They can be jokers, and one of them secretly signed her up to sing 'Cowboy,' by Kid Rock. I think they were trying to test her and see how fun she was. "When the announcer called her name and what song she'd be singing, I thought she would hide behind me or refuse to go onstage, since she's kind of shy. Instead, she jumped up there and gave it her all. She was awesome and really rocked out. My friends were impressed. . .and so was I. Even though we hadn't been dating very long, at that moment, I knew I wanted to marry her. Marraige is permanent, so being with someone who would make it fun is what really selaed the deal." –Andre, 33
  • She Never Lost Her Cool – "I hate to travel and get really agitated having to deal with all the crap that ges on in airports. Last year, Amy and I took a trip to Hawaii. We had saved up and were really looking forward to it. After we landed, we went to get our bags. . .but they weren't there. I immediately started flipping out and worrying that we would be without clothes for our expensive vacation. Admittedly, I was less than nice to the airline employee who was trying to help us. Seeing that, Amy walked me over to a nearby bench, told me to take a breahter, and said she would do her best to handle it. "I watched her as she went back and calmly dealt with the situation. She took care of everything, then came over to tell me that the airline would locate our bags and deliver them to our hotel. She had even finagled airline-ticket vouchers out of them. Watching her step in to handle the crisis with such grace and ease was a complete turn-on, and something just clicked. On the last day of the vacation, I proposed." –Nick, 28
  • She Lit Up the Room – "Alyssa and I had been dating for just under a year when I took her to an office party. While I was with a group of my coworkers, she went to the bar to get a glass of wine for herslef. At one point, I looked over, and she was surrounded by a huge group of people and animatedly telling a story–waving her hands and throwing back her head and laughing. Looking at the people around her, I could see how enraptured with her they were. The way she lit up the room was amazing. Witnessing how her lively personality drew other people in made me realize she was the girl I couldn't let get away." –Chase, 26
  • She Thought to Pick Up Takeout – "When I met Cassie, I had been in love twice before and never thought of marriage with either of the pervious girls. I actually had believed I would never get married and maybe would end up like George Clooney. "One night, I went out with my brother, and he asked me what I liked about Cassie. As I started giving him examples of the things that had made me fall for her, I realized there was a common thread; She went out of her way to do nice things for me and the other people she cared abotu. In the past, I had always catered to my girlfriends and been the one to take care of them. But with Cassie, it felt more mutual. Every story I told my brother had to do with Cassie's little acts of affection–from writing me love notes and sticking them in my jacket pocket to showing up at my place without takeout from my favorite restaurant after I'd had a really bad day." –Jacob, 35

I get to look at wedding dresses every day … lucky me! I wanted something fun for my upcoming backyard wedding, and after a few other near hits, I found this from BCBG! I love it — lets just hope it looks as good one me as this gorgeous gal! What do we think for shoes? Strappy gold sandals?

Faith

There are a handful of places in California that remain untouched by time and progress. Saddlerock Ranch, a 1,000-acre idyll nestled deep in the rugged Santa Monica Mountains of Mailbu, is one of these rare places.

"Knowing without proof, even if you do not understand or if circumstances contradict your belief – this is faith. Faith or deep conviction of your soul guides and protects you. Even if everything crumbles around you, your faith is like a rope which you can grasp onto and find your way to solid ground. Honor your faith. It is uniquely and personally yours."
